Inv. # 070120B. Full light brown leather designed to appear 3/4 with large gold-stamped portrait of Shakespeare on front boards. All edges gilt. The work "compris[es] the principal female characters in the plays of the great poet. Engraved in the highest style of art, from drawings by eminent artists. With letterpress extracts from the text, in English and French; and critical essays on each of the characters." The book is close in looks to Inventory # P-070120A, The Complete Works of Shakspeare, and was published by the same company around the same time, mid 19th Century. It would make an excellent companion to that set, as well as being a very nice stand-alone work. ; Steel engraving; 4to 11" - 13" tall
